❓ Why doesn't the app show my location?

The app doesn't require or use GPS location. Instead, it uses your device's timezone setting to determine where it's 5 PM around the world. If you're not seeing your location in the list, it may be because:

  • Your timezone is not currently at 5 PM
  • The location may be listed under a different city name
  • Check back in a few hours when it reaches 5 PM in your timezone

❓ How do I add a favorite location?

You can add favorite locations directly in the app. When viewing a location at 5 PM, tap the heart icon to add it to your favorites. Your favorites are saved locally on your device.

❓ What are achievements and how do I unlock them?

Achievements are earned by using the app and celebrating 5 PM in different ways. Check the Achievements section in the app's settings to see what you've unlocked and what's still available. Achievements are tracked locally and sync with iCloud if enabled.

❓ How do I change my drink emoji?

Open the app's Settings, tap on the drink emoji selector, and choose your preferred drink from the list. Your selection is saved automatically and will appear whenever 5 PM is happening somewhere.

❓ Can I turn off notifications?

Yes! You can control notifications in two ways:

  • In the app: Go to Settings and toggle notifications on/off
  • On your device: Settings → Notifications → 5 O'Clock Somewhere

❓ Why am I getting notifications at the wrong time?

Notifications are sent when it becomes 5 PM in different timezones around the world. Times may vary depending on your device's timezone settings. Make sure your device time and timezone are set correctly.

❓ What data does the app collect?

We collect minimal data. Most information is stored locally on your device:

  • Your preferences (drink emoji, notification settings)
  • Favorite locations
  • Achievement progress
  • Your device's timezone (for functionality)

We do not collect GPS data, contact information, or sell your data. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.

❓ Is my data safe?

Yes. Most of your data is stored locally on your device and is never sent to external servers. Optionally, data can be synced to iCloud if you enable it in your device settings. We take security seriously and implement industry-standard protections.

❓ How do I delete my data?

You can delete all app data by:

  • Going to your device's Settings → App Management → 5 O'Clock Somewhere → Clear Data/Cache, or
  • Uninstalling the app entirely

Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.

Troubleshooting Guide

⚠️ App Crashes or Won't Open

Step 1: Force close the app and reopen it
  • iOS: Swipe up from the bottom to access the app switcher, then swipe up on the app
  • Swipe down and tap the app again to reopen
Step 2: Clear the app cache
  • Go to Settings → Apps → 5 O'Clock Somewhere
  • Tap "Storage" → "Clear Cache"
Step 3: Reinstall the app
  • Uninstall the app and download it fresh from the App Store
  • Your data will be restored if you enabled iCloud sync

⚠️ Locations Not Updating

Check your timezone: Make sure your device's timezone is set correctly in Settings → General → Date & Time
Force refresh: Pull down on the location list to refresh, or close and reopen the app
Restart your device: A simple restart can resolve sync issues

⚠️ Not Receiving Notifications

Check notification permissions: Settings → Notifications → 5 O'Clock Somewhere → Allow Notifications must be enabled
Check app settings: Open the app and go to Settings → toggle Notifications On
Check Do Not Disturb: Make sure Do Not Disturb is not enabled during the times you want notifications

⚠️ Widget Not Showing Correct Time

Widget refresh delay: Widgets refresh periodically. Give it a moment, the time will update automatically
Refresh manually: Press and hold the widget, then tap "Edit" to refresh it
Check timezone: Verify your device timezone is correct in Settings → General → Date & Time
